Viral UBA Graduate Bags ₦500,000, Ambassadorial Deal Days After Tony Elumelu Drama

A young United Bank for Africa (UBA) graduate trainee who recently went viral after addressing the bank’s Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, by his first name has received a ₦500,000 cash offer and an ambassadorial opportunity following the controversy.

The young woman attracted widespread attention after a video from UBA’s Graduate Management Accelerated Programme (GMAP) graduation ceremony surfaced online.

During an interactive session at the event, the trainee addressed Elumelu as “Tony” while beginning her question.

Elumelu interrupted her and told her that he preferred to be addressed as “Mr Elumelu” or “TOE”, rather than by his first name.

The brief exchange quickly spread across social media and generated mixed reactions.

Ossai Ovie Success, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, announced a support package for the young woman and offered her an ambassadorial role.

In a post published on Saturday, Ossai said he was offering the viral UBA staff member ₦500,000 in cash support as well as a complimentary VIP trip to the Delta Social Media Summit in Asaba.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2026.

The package, according to Ossai, includes return flight tickets to Asaba, five-star hotel accommodation, a guided tour of developmental projects in Delta State and VIP access to the social media summit.

He also offered the woman a brand ambassador role for the Delta Social Media Summit, an annual event held in the state.

Ossai said his intervention was intended to turn the negative attention surrounding the incident into something positive for the young woman.

He acknowledged that social media criticism can be difficult, particularly for a young person who suddenly becomes the focus of widespread public attention.

The Delta governor’s aide also appealed to members of the public who know the woman to encourage her to contact him so arrangements could be made for the support package.

He said he wanted to give her an opportunity to tell her side of the story and assured her that she would have a positive experience in Delta State.
